Miami, Fla. -- Despite another solid pitching start for St. Thomas Baseball, Florida International pulled out a 3-1 win over the Toms in game one of Saturday's non-conference doubleheader on the Panthers' campus.

FIU (2-0) and St. Thomas (0-2) had their second seven-inning game halted by lightning and later torrential rain. The contest is tied 1-1 through four innings and will resume Sunday at 10 a.m. Minnesota time ahead of the scheduled noon nine-inning contest.

The Panthers have rallied from one-run deficits in all three games thus far. The rallied to win 4-3 in Friday night's series opener.

Game 1
St. Thomas sophomore starter Kolby Gartner struck out the sides in the first inning of his Division I debut. Gartner worked 4 2-3 innings and allowed three runs, seven hits, three walks with flour strikeouts.

The Toms loaded the bases in the top of the second inning with none out. Charlie Bartholomew had a bunt single and took second on a wild pitch. After a walk and an error on another bunt loaded the bases, Bartholomew scored on a wild pitch. But the Purple stranded the two in scoring position.

FIU scored all three runs in the third inning, the go-ahead and insurance runs on a two-out double.

Freshman Brigs Richartz went 2-for-3 to lead a five-hit attack for the Purple.

Game 2

Freshman Walker Retz worked four innings in his college debut and limited the Panthers to one run, three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

Jonah Hoeg had a two-out RBI single in the second inning for the Toms' lone run.
