Bengals take down Tommies in overtime

Pocatello, Idaho -- St. Thomas Women's Basketball went to overtime Saturday afternoon as Idaho State completed a comeback for a 58-54 win in Pocatello, Idaho. The Tommies fall to 3-4 as Jo Langbehn led the team with a career-high 14 points.
The Purple defense played stout in the beginning, allowing the Bengals to convert just two field goals in each of the first and second quarters. Maggie Negaard hit a 3-pointer for the game's first points followed by a 7-0 run for a 10-2 lead.
Langbehn put in a layup early in the second quarter to total six of the team's 12 points. Negaard hit her second 3-pointer of the first half for an eight-point lead that was extended to 10, 23-13, just before halftime.
Following a jumper by the Bengals to start the third quarter, St. Thomas went on a 7-0 run, capped by a 3-pointer from Autam Mendez to lead by a game-high 14 points, 32-18. After adding three points from Langbehn, the Tommies shot 1-of-10 from the floor and gave away four turnovers to allow the Bengals to draw within one, 35-34, early in the fourth quarter.
Faith Feuerbach made her first basket of the game, a corner 3-pointer, to snap a 16-3 ISU run with 7:16 left to play. The Bengals continued to erase the Tommie lead, eventually taking its first lead of the game, 41-40. Both teams traded leads on the next three scores, including another 3-pointer from Feuerbach to go ahead, 45-43. Following a jumper to tie the game, neither team scored over the final 1:20 before heading to overtime.
Both teams traded scores through the overtime period, including a jumper by Idaho State to take a 56-54 lead with 28 seconds remaining. The ensuing Tommie shot was blocked in the paint, leading to free throws by the Bengals to seal the game.
The Tommies finished the game shooting 33 percent from the floor (20-60), 20 percent from 3-point range (6-30) and 53 percent from the free throw line (8-15). Idaho State won the rebound battle, 47-38, while St. Thomas outscored ISU in the paint, 26-14.
Langbehn went 6-of-13 from the floor and tied for the team lead with six rebounds. Negaard followed in scoring with 11 points and tied Langbehn with six boards. Hill was the final Tommie to score in double figures with 10 points.
St. Thomas returns to St. Paul on Thursday, Dec. 8 for a 7 p.m. tip-off against Purdue Fort Wayne at Schoenecker Arena.
