Miller, Rohde combine for 42 points as efficient Tommies take down Polars, 91-56

St. Paul, Minn. -- St. Thomas Men's Basketball's efficiency was on full display Saturday night as it took down Crown College, 91-56, at Schoenecker Arena. Riley Miller paced the squad with 24 points followed by Andrew Rohde with 18, while the duo combined for seven assists and no turnovers.
"Really glad to get a win tonight. It's always fun with a home crowd on a Saturday evening," Head Coach John Tauer said. "I thought our guys did a really nice job coming out focused against a Crown team that's really good on offense. I thought we were disciplined in our gaps and our assignments in the first half particularly.
"We shared the ball really well. Getting Riley MIller 16 3-point attempts is great. I also thought Andrew Rohde was phenomenal with 18 points, 5 assists, 3 steals, 0 turnovers. All-in-all, a really good win to get to 7-3. At this point in the season, we're thrilled with where we're at. Going out to Montana State and Idaho State will be a really fun challenge and then back at home against Green Bay. Thanks to all the fans who were out here."
Rohde started off the night with a drive through the lane to begin a 20-5 run against Crown. Miller accounted for 12 points during the run and capped it with his fourth of seven 3-pointers on the night. All five of the Tommie starters scored in the first half while the defense limited the Polars to 26.9 percent shooting over the first 20 minutes.
Coming out of halftime with a 46-21 lead, Crown cut the deficit to 15, 56-41, just over eight minutes into play. The Tommies bounced back with a 10-0 run, including back-to-back 3-pointers from Rohde and Miller to take a 66-41 lead.
The Tommies took advantage of 13 Polar turnovers, turning them into 22 points. St. Thomas also knocked down 10 3-pointers as a team, the fifth time over the last six games reaching double-digits. The Purple won the rebound margin, 45-39, and held the Polars to 33.9 percent shooting.
Miller went 8-of-17 from the field, 7-of-16 from beyond the arc, and added five rebounds. Rohde went 6-of-14 from the floor, a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line and recorded a team-high five assists.
St. Thomas will hit the road for two games, beginning Thursday, Dec. 8 with a trip to Bozeman, Mont., to take on Montana State.
