Women's Hockey thwarted at No. 5 Minnesota, 8-0
1/8/2022 7:03:00 PM | Women's Hockey
Minneapolis, Minn. - St. Thomas women's hockey (4-14-1, 2-12-1 WCHA) could not withstand the strong offense of No. 5 Minnesota (15-5-1, 10-4-1 WCHA) in an 8-0 conference loss on Friday.
The Tommies faced an early deficit after the Gophers scored two quick goals just minutes into the opening period. The team amassed seven first period shots while seeing the opponent tally 14 shots in the first 20 minutes. Freshman forward Abby Promersberger and senior forward Anna Solheim each recorded two first period shots.
The second and third periods mirrored much of the same from the opening 20 minutes of play, as the St. Thomas offense was limited shot-wise, and the Minnesota offense exploded with shots and goals of their own. In addition, the Tommies defenders recorded 25 blocks to the Gophers' eight blocks.
Senior goaltender Alexa Dobchuk, making the start in the net for the Toms, played all 60 minutes of the game and made 50 saves.
QUICK NOTES
The Tommies return home for the second game of the home-and-home series on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. against the Gophers.
