Marek Gonda scored two goals and added an assist to lead host DePaul to Thursday's 3-1 defeat of St. Thomas in non-conference men's soccer play in Chicago.
Senior George Marty scored in the 34th minute for the Tommies (0-3) -- his first goal on the season and seventh on his career -- to tie the score at 1-1. Connor Aksoz and Stu Sain recorded the assists.
The game remained deadlocked throughout the middle 30 minutes before DePaul connected with the go-ahead goal in the 65th minute. Gonda added an insurance goal in the 85th minute for the Blue Demons (1-1).
DePaul posted an 16-6 advantage in shots; an 8-3 edge in shots on goal; and an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks. Tucker Mann had five saves in net for St. Thomas.
The Purple will close this trip with Saturday's clash at Northern Illinois (3 p.m.), then return to campus for Monday's home-field debut against Drake (4 p.m.).
