Women's Tennis gets 5-0 win over Oles, on to finals

5/7/2021 7:39:00 PM | Women's Tennis

Top-seed St. Thomas Women's Tennis advanced to the championship match of the 2021 MIAC Playoffs with Friday's 5-0 defeat of St. Olaf in the semifinal round. The contest was played outdoors at the University of Minnesota Baseline courts.

The Tommies (12-3) ran their win streak to 12 and remain unbeaten on the season against Division III opponents.

Coach Ken Cychosz' team will face second-seed Gustavus in Saturday's 1 p.m. finals back at the Baseline courts. It will mark St. Thomas' third trip to the playoff championship match in the last eight years the playoffs have been held, and first since a 2015 when it upset host Gustavus in the finals to claim its lone playoff championship.

Olivia Paradise and Jannah El Nemr won close matches at Nos. 3-4 singles to secure the team victory.

Both were also involved in close wins in a 3-0 sweep of doubles for the Purple. El Nemr and fellow freshman Nicole Snezhko won 8-7 at first doubles, and Paradise and Brooke Hapuku won 8-6 at second doubles. Monteray Knewtson and Claire Palen won 8-1 at third doubles.
