Women's Hockey victory streak hits four with 4-3 home win

2/24/2021 10:26:00 PM | Women's Hockey

Junior Kalli Engen stopped 18 of 21 shots in her first career start and four different Tommies scored goals in Wednesday night's 4-3 home win over Concordia-Moorhead in non-conference women's hockey play in Mendota Heights.

St. Thomas (5-1), which never trailed, has played six games in an 11-day span, and has built a four-game winning streak.

Balance has been a theme for Coach Tom Palkowski. He has started a different goalie in each of his last three games, all wins, and the Tommies' last nine goals have come from nine different players.

In fact, St. Thomas' 25 season goals have come from 16 different players over just six games.

Maija Almich and Kate Winiecki scored goals just 49 seconds apart late in the first period for a 2-0 lead. Freshman Lauren Einan's goal midway through the second period built a 3-1 lead, and Chloe McEnelly scored five minutes into the third frame for a 4-2 lead.

St. Thomas killed off four of five CC power plays and has now turned back 20 of 22 on the season.

The Toms are home Saturday to face St. Mary's (2 p.m.) as they are scheduled to close the season with five consecutive MIAC games.
