Swimming & Diving concludes competition at the SCSU Rochester Invitational

Rochester, Minn. – The St. Thomas men's and women's swimming & diving teams concluded the final day of competition at the SCSU Rochester Invitational on Sunday.
 
The women's team finished in fourth among the 10 teams competing with 422.5 points, while the men's squad ended in sixth among eight teams with 340 points. Both teams were primarily competing in preliminary events on Sunday.
 
Joe Rudd, a freshman out of Duluth, Minn., earned the second-fastest time in the 200 Yard Breaststroke (2:03.33). Sophomore Blake Baertlein finished fourth in the 100 Yard IM preliminaries with a time of 53.59. Senior Andrew Godfrey competed in the 3 Meter Dive and tallied the sixth-best prelim score (390.45).
 
Freshman Elizabeth Bonneville collected the fourth-fastest 200 Yard Backstroke preliminary time at 2:06.26. Senior Anna Astrup had the sixth-fastest preliminary time in the same event (2:07.86). Sophomore Grace Urkiel (2:22.89) and junior Taylor Rau (2:25.78) finished fourth and seventh, respectively, in the prelims for the 200 Yard Breaststroke.
 
QUICK NOTES
  • Joe Rudd set the program record for the 200-Yard Breaststroke, besting the previous record by .01 second.
 
UP NEXT
The Tommies take an extended break before returning home for a dual meet against South Dakota on Friday, Jan. 14 at 6:00 p.m.
