Volleyball drops 3-0 home decision to Western Illinois
10/5/2021 9:32:00 PM | Volleyball
Playing its third match in six days, Tommie Volleyball fell short at home in Summit League play Tuesday night. Western Illinois posted a 25-21, 25-19, 25-18 victory at Schoenecker Arena.
Western (3-13 overall, 2-3 Summit) hit .263, recorded five aces and just two service errors in posting its first road win of the season.
St. Thomas (2-13, 1-4) received 12 kills apiece from freshmen Libby Mattila and Lauren Galvin. Carrie Rutledge added 18 digs; Lander Friederichs added five blocks; Claire Ricard added seven kills and four blocks.
"We had good effort out there," Tommie coach Thanh Pham said. "We are missing a few players, but that's no excuse, I thought that we battled, we just came up a little short. Give credit to Western Illinois.
"We need to get fresh. We looked a little tired out there. The D I schedule, the grind of it is a real thing, and we're just fighting through it right now. I think our players will refocus on the road trip (starting Thursday)."
St. Thomas travels to Sioux Falls, S.D. for Thursday's Summit League match against South Dakota on a neutral floor at the Pentagon.
