Oral Roberts hit .356 and made 16 assisted blocks as it pulled away to claim Thursday night's Summit League volleyball match with St. Thomas, 3-0. The host Tommies lost 25-17, 25-19, 25-15 in Schoenecker Arena.
The Golden Eagles (11-5 overall, 5-2 Summit) remain in the chase for the conference lead with 11 Summit matches to go. Sakira LaCour had 15 kills and hit .750.
Freshman Lauren Galvin had 10 kills; freshman Libby Mattila added eight kills and two aces; senior Carrie Rutledge had nine digs; freshman Eva Fitzgerald chipped in 15 assists; and freshman Hannah Pham added 12 assists and eight digs.
Coach Thanh Pham said his team continues to focus on competing hard and making steady improvement.
"They play hard for each other, its not about one individual performance but about a team effort," Pham explained. "I was really proud of how hard they were fighting. We have to chase down the ball a little better. Obviously Oral Roberts plays a little bit higher on the net so we need to make adjustments in our back row. We need to control what we can. We just focus on improvement and focus on the little things. It might not show on the scoreboard, but I can tell as a coach that we're getting better every day, and that's something we pride ourselves on."
St. Thomas (2-16, 1-7) is home Saturday to face Kansas City in a 3 p.m. match.
