Women's Basketball explodes late to secure road win

1/18/2020 12:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball

Brynne Rolland finished with 14 points and seven rebounds and No. 22-ranked St. Thomas Women's Basketball outscored St. Mary's 20-3 over the final 10:45 on the clock to record a 60-35 MIAC win Saturday afternoon in Winona.

The Tommies (12-3 overall, 8-2 MIAC) improved to 8-0 on the road this season, and moved to 5-0 in January games. This is the fifth time this season they have allowed 45 or fewer points.

Amber Darge sank three of her four treys in the game-closing 20-3 run. She finished with 12 points. Allie Spaulding came off the bench and chipped in nine points and five boards in 21 minutes.

The Cards pulled within 40-32 in the final minute of period three, but two Noelle Tomes free throws and Darge's 3-pointer at the buzzer to end the third quarter made it a 13-point cushion. Three baskets inside by Rolland to start the final quarter extended the lead to 51-32.

Claire Patterson had 10 points to lead St. Mary's.

St. Thomas is home Wednesday and next Saturday to face Macalester and St. Catherine.
