W. Soccer wins MIAC opener, extends home streak

No. 8-ranked Tommie Women's Soccer received points from six different players in Tuesday's 3-0 defeat of visiting Gustavus at South Field. It was the 2019 MIAC opener for both teams.
Kate Heimer scored the game's first goal in the 43rd minute. Heimer added a second-half assist for the Tommies (4-0 overall, 1-0 MIAC), who pushed their home win streak to 12 games.
Tessa Trettel and Kristen Epperley scored goals 10 minutes apart midway through the second half to stretch the lead.
Sarah Pasternak made three saves in goal and helped St. Thomas record its 49th shutout in the last five seasons. It was the seventh career shutout for Pasternak, now 10-0 on her career.
Maddie Bomsta, Kaley Roberts and Callie Haertle contributed assists.
St. Thomas plays Carthage and Illinois Wesleyan in non-conference matches in Oshkosh, Wis., Friday and Saturday. The Toms return to conference play Sept. 25 in a night game at Augsburg.
