Women's Soccer freezes out Royals; playoff title game next

An icy wind and frosty temperature couldn't slow a red-hot Tommie Women's Soccer team Wednesday at South Field.
No. 19-ranked St. Thomas pushed their home unbeaten streak to 24 with a 3-0 win over visiting Bethel in as MIAC semifinal playoff test.
The Tommies (15-2-2) are 10-0-2 in their last 12 games. They play in a Saturday 1 p.m. playoff championship clash at top-seed Augsburg, a 5-1 winner over fourth-seed St. Ben's.
St. Thomas recorded its 12th shutout of the season and fifth in a row. It has outscored opponents 34-8.
The Purple had a 5-1 edge in corner kicks and a 10-0 advantage in shots on goal.
The Toms' last six goals have come from six different players. On Wednesday, Paige Cater scored in the 31st minute; Kate Heimer added a cushion goal in the 66th minute. Paola Del Moral scored her first college goal as she converted a penalty kick in the 72nd minute.
