Late heroics again nets Women's Soccer a title share

11/3/2019 12:00:00 AM | Women's Soccer

Team Overtime -- aka 2019 Tommie Women's Soccer -- did it again.

For the fifth time this season -- and fourth time on the road -- the Purple has pulled out a clutch victory in overtime.

What looked to be a likely 0-0 tie on Saturday turned into a 1-0 win at St. Mary's. A foul and yellow card was called near the box on a Tommie attack with 16 seconds remaining in the second overtime. Kate Heimer's entry kick went to Kaley Roberts, and her bullet blast into the lower left net with 12 seconds left scored the game's only goal.

That let the Toms share the MIAC championship with Augsburg, a 4-0 winner at home over Hamline. Both teams went 9-1-1 in the MIAC.

No. 19-ranked St. Thomas (14-2-2 overall, 9-1-1 MIAC) ran its win streak to seven and unbeaten streak to 11.

Olivia Elvidge had three saves and helped post her team's 10th shutout this season.

Over the last five seasons, St. Thomas Women's Soccer is unbeaten in overtime play (11-0-8).

St. Thomas is in the MIAC playoffs for the sixth year in a row and is home Wednesday for a 2 p.m. game
