10/6/2019 12:00:00 AM | Women's Soccer
No. 17-ranked Tommie Women's Soccer knew it would get a stiff test Sunday at once-beaten Bethel. And it did.
It took 109 minutes on the clock, but Tessa Trettel's second goal of the game turned a contest headed to a tie into a 2-1 St. Thomas victory.
The Tommies (7-2-1 overall, 3-1 MIAC) never trailed but were presssed after the Royals scored a tying goal in the 78th minute.
The Toms had advantages in corner kicks (8-2), shots (24-8) and shots on goal (12-6). Goalkeeper Olivia Elvidge had five saves over 108:59 in goal.
The Toms improved to 6-0 in games when Trettel contributes a goal.
There are six teams with one or less loss in the 11-game conference race, with Bethel (8-2, 3-2) also in the chase.
St. Thomas plays at home next Saturday afternoon against Carleton.
