10/30/2019 12:00:00 AM | Women's Soccer
Tessa Trettel scored the game's only goal in the 52nd minute as host Tommie Women's Soccer finished off a 1-0 MIAC win over St. Catherine on a cold Wednesday afternoon at South Field.
St. Thomas (13-2-2 overall, 8-1-1 MIAC) remains in a first-place tie with Augsburg with one game to play in the regular season.
The Toms secured a first-round playoff bye and will host a semifinal playoff game next Wednesday at 2 p.m., after a 11:30 a.m. Tommie men's playoff contest.
Kate Heimer and Callie Haertle notched the assists for the Purple, who pushed their unbeaten streak to 10 (8-0-2) and their home unbeaten streak to 22. Sarah Pasternak was in net and had two saves as the defense recorded its ninth shutout of the season. The Toms are 7-2 this season in games decided by one goal.
St. Thomas plays Saturday at St. Mary's (3:30 p.m.) and can secure at least a share of the MIAC championship with a victory. The Tommies are looking to secure a fourth conference crown in five seasons, and the eighth in program history
