Volleyball splits two matches in Iowa tourney

No. 17-ranked Tommie Volleyball had two good tests Saturday at the Coe College tournament, with seven of the eight sets decided by two or three points.
St. Thomas had an 11-match win streak halted by Illinois Wesleyan in the opener, losing 3-1, but finished the trip 2-1 with a 3-1 defeat of Coe to close the day.
The Toms lost 23-25, 25-23, 30-28, 25-23 to IWU, and beat Coe 16-25, 25-22, 25-23, 26-24.
St. Thomas (24-3) was led on the two Saturday matches by Fran Egan with 24 kills over the eight sets. Madie Kroehler added 20 kills and 31 digs; Grace Anetipa had 87 assists; and Ellie Meyer and Meghan Mazzola each had 38 digs.
The MIAC-leading Purple play at home Friday evening against Macalester.
