Sat. Wrap: W. Soccer streak now at 13

Senior All-America Mallory DeBoom scored a goal in the sixth minute and No. 16-ranked Tommie Women's Soccer scored a 1-0 home victory over St. Catherine in conference play Saturday at South Field.
The Tommies (13-1 overall, 7-0 MIAC) ran their season win streak to 13. They also watched two close pursuers take their second MIAC loss of the season with the Wildcats (4-2-2) and St. Olaf (5-2-2), a 1-0 overtime loser at Concordia. Coach Sheila McGill's team has four MIAC games to play.
DeBoom recorded her 37th career goal and is closing in on 100 career points. Olivia Elvidge had two saves in goal.
The Toms are home Wednesday to face Concordia.
Volleyball
St. Thomas went 2-0 on the day in Waverly, Iowa, capped by a 3-2 defeat of host Wartburg. Earlier, Coach Thanh Pham's team scored a 3-0 win over Nebraska Wesleyan.
The Toms (18-7), have won nine of their last 11 matches. They topped Wartburg 25-17, 25-18, 18-25, 24-26, 15-9. Katharine Mallak had 44 assists. Madie Kroehler had 16 kills and 28 digs. Grace Bordson added 10 kills and four blocks. Audrey Erickson had 14 kills. Ellie Meyer had 29 digs.
In the win over Nebraska Wesleyan, Julia Spacek hit .577 and had 17 kills, and Sophia Heuer had 11 kills.
St. Thomas plays Friday night at Bethel and Saturday at St. Mary's.
Men's Cross Country
Junior Karl Wachter placed eighth in a field of 402 finishers as No. 29-ranked Tommie Men's Cross Country took seventh out of 27 teams at Saturday's Connecticut College Invite in New London, Ct.
No. 8-ranked Amhert won with 72 points. No. 16 Williams (76), Middlebury (96), Tufts (136), No. 30 Dickinson (190), No. 28 Connecticut College (208) and St. Thomas (271) and WPI (279) took the 2-3-4-5-6-7-8 team spots.
UST sophomore Carl Kozlowski took 56th (26:04); junior Collin Kiley placed 71st (26:11); senior Parker Rosenau took 75th (26:14); freshman Biel Wiel was 82nd (26:17); freshman Mac Karrick took 94th (26:26); and freshman Adam Ebent placed 211th (27:24).
The Toms compete Oct. 27 at the MIAC Championships at St. Olaf.
St. Thomas also had some runners compete at the La Crosse Invite in Ettrick, Wis.
Junior George McGivern led that UST contingent as he clocked 27:20 for 79th place in a field of 294 finishers. Chase Graff placed 115th in 27:51.

Women's Cross Country
St. Thomas' top team place 16th of 52 teams at Saturday's D-III Pre-National Meet near Oshkosh, Wis. The Tommies beat one top-25-ranked team and finished behind 14 other ranked teams.
UST's top four finishers had just a 10-second split: freshman Olivia Moll was 86th (23:39); Martha Hubbell placed 91st (23:42); Becca Wilkin was 95th (23:44); Amber Matzoll took 103rd (23:49).
Molly Clarke placed 143rd (24:15); soph Carly Scheuerman placed 160th (24:24); and freshman Caroline Johnson took 188th (24:43).
The Tommies also had some runners compete at the UW-La Crosse Invite. Katie Breuckman placed 65th out of 262 finishers in 24:16.
