Tommies get shutout win to close weekend trip

Johnny Panvica recorded a hat trick and two assists and the Tommies cruised to an 8-0 win over Connecticut College in Saturday's non-conference men's hockey play in the Nichols College tournament in Dudley, Mass. The Toms closed the tounament 1-1.
St. Thomas (7-4-1) posted its biggest scoring night since January 2014 when it won 8-0 against Hamline. UST outshot Connecticticut 35-17. Benjamin Myers had 17 saves for his second shutout of the season and helped kill off all five CC power plays.
Tanner Barnes scored twice for the Toms, who led 3-0 through two periods. Kane Durment, Brett Gravelle and Cullen Willox scored one goal apiece.
UST plays Tuesday at UW-River Falls and is home next Friday to face Gustavus.
