Volleyball goes 3-1 at River Falls tourney

No. 23-ranked Tommie Volleyball opened Saturday play at the Falcon Invite with a 3-0 defeat of host UW-River Falls, then outlasted UW-Stout in a 3-2 win to cap a 3-1 weekend.
The Toms topped Stout 25-22, 22-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-11, and beat River Falls 25-14, 25-16, 25-20.
The Stout victory was the first five-set decision of the season for St. Thomas, which pushed its overall record to 11-2.
Whitney Lloyd had 17 kills; Madie Kroehler had 10 kills and 15 digs; Ellie Meyer had 35 digs; and Hannah Schwartz had 28 assists and 11 digs.
Against the Falcons (12-3), Lloyd had 12 kills and four blocks; Brooke Reichart had 12 kills; Kroehler added eight kills and 14 digs.
Meyer was chosen for the all-tournament team.
UST opens its home season Wednesday night against St. Ben's.

No. 23-ranked Tommie Volleyball split two matches Friday night at the UW-River Falls Falcon Invite.
The Toms won 3-0 over Finlandia, 25-16, 25-13, 25-11, then took an early lead on UW-Stevens Point before falling 18-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-21. The Pointers improved to 11-2.
St. Thomas (9-2) plays two matches on Saturday to close out the Falcon tourney -- at noon against UW-River Falls, and 2 p.m. against UW-Stout.
In the Stevens Point loss, Madie Kroehler had 12 kills and 21 digs; Julia Spacek had nine kills and six blocks; Whitney Lloyd had 14 kills; Ellie Meyer had 44 digs; and Katharine Mallak had 24 assists.
Coach Thanh Pham used a lot of players in the Finlandia win. Grace Bordsen had 10 kills and four blocks.
