Benjamin Myers stopped 22 shots and recorded his third shutout of the season and St. Thomas Men's Hockey scored four goals in a 13:00 midgame span en route to Saturday night's 6-0 road win over St. Olaf.
Ten different players recorded a point for the Tommies (13-7-5 overall, 11-3-2 MIAC), who won the solo MIAC title with 36 points to 33 for Augsburg. It's the 34th MIAC Men's Hockey championship for St. Thomas, including five in the last six seasons.
The Toms went 5-2-1 over the last eight games to grind out a championship,
The Auggies started the day tied for the conference lead but lost 4-2 at home to St. John's after rallying to tie that game 2-2 in the final period.
UST freshman Alex Trapp scored his first two collegiate goals and added an assist.
Tanner Barnes, D.J. Jones, Chris Benson and Brett Gravelle each scored a goal. Michael Dockry and Broydon Stufko each had two assists.
The win capped off an exciting weekend for the Tommies. In Friday's game, the Oles tied it in the final 4:00 of regulation and the game went to a 5:00 sudden-death overtime. St. Thomas scored one of the latest goals in conference history as just :01.4 were on the clock when freshman Johnny Panvica hit the back of the net with the game winner.
St. Thomas will play host to a semifinal playoff game Feb. 25 in Mendota Heights against either Hamline or Concordia-Moorhead.
