Fri. Wrap: Thrilling night for Men; Women tie on ice

St. Thomas and St. Olaf squared off in men's and women's hockey on Friday night. Both contests went to overtime.
On the women's side in Northfield, St. Thomas outshot the host Oles 37-17 but came away with a 1-1 tie. UST's Becca Zarembinski scored early in the third period to tie the game.
St. Thomas (10-10-4) plays the Oles Saturday at 2 p.m. in Mendota Heights. With a win and a Hamline loss, UST can move into the No. 4 spot in the playoff seedings.
The men's game had an electric finish. The Oles tied the game 3-3 on a goal with 3:17 remaining in period three. That's the way regulation ended, and as the 5:00 overtime wound down it appeared the game would tie and go to a shootout.
But UST collected the puck with 10 seconds left in the Olaf zone, stormed up ice, and freshman Johnny Panvicka cleaned up a rebound shot with :01.4 on the clock to give the Tommies a 4-3 win. Jack Christensen and Brett Gravelle were credited with assists.
It was the second goal of the game for Panvicka, who has seven goals and four assists in his last six games.
Andrew Rohkohl, making just his third start in the nets, stopped two point-blank shots with 1:39 to go in overtime after a St. Olaf breakaway. Rohkohl also helped kill off six of seven Ole power chances on the night.
St. Thomas (12-7-5 overall, 10-3-2 MIAC) kept pace with Augsburg, a 5-1 winner at St. John's, atop the conference standings with 33 points each. Both the Tommies and Auggies wrapped up top-two seeds and home playoff games.
If both Augsburg and UST win or if both lose on Saturday they will share the MIAC title. The Toms play the Oles at 7:30 p.m in Northfield.
