MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. - Trailing 3-2 midway through the third period, the St. Thomas men's hockey team scored three unanswered goals to capture a 5-3 win over non-conference opponent UW-Eau Claire on Thursday night at St. Thomas Ice Arena.

The Tommies allowed the game's first goal to the Blugolds midway through the opening period, but used a last-minute power play goal by Cullen Willox to even the score at 1-1 heading to the first intermission.

UW-Eau Claire scored on the power play early in the second period to take a 2-1 lead.  But St. Thomas had the answer late again in the period to tie the game.  Colton Berg scored with 0.4 seconds remaining to even the score yet again headed to the break.

The script remained the same in the third, as the Blugolds came out to take another one-goal lead.  This time, rather than waiting until the final minute of the frame, the Tommies responded with back-to-back goals within two minutes of each other to take a 4-3 lead.  Broydon Stufko tied the game before Willox contributed his second goal of the night to put the Purple out front.

Brian LeBlanc added a short-handed, empty-net goal late to secure the 5-3 win and send the Tommies to 2-2-1 overall record on the year.

St. Thomas finished with a 27-25 shot advantage.  Benjamin Myers went the distance in goal for the Tommies, registering 22 saves in the win. Camden Haugenoe tallied an equal 22 saves and allowed four goals in the loss.

UST will be back on the ice Saturday night when it hosts UW-Stevens Point at 7:00 pm at St. Thomas Ice Arena.
