Men's Hockey takes tie in season-opener

Cullen Willox scored two goals but St. Thomas Men's Hockey came away with a 3-3 tie in a season-opening match Friday night at the MIAC Showcase in Blaine.
After a scoreless 5:00 overtime, the Tommies (0-0-1) won a shootout 1-0 on Brett Gravelle's goal, but the game goes down as a tie.
The Cardinals scored two power-play goals and an extra-attacker goal, the latter with 25 seconds left. St. Thomas was unable to convert on a power play in the game's final 3:00 and then saw the game tied in the final 30 seconds.
Benjamin Myers had 35 saves in 65:00 in goal. Ben Vikich added a goal and Michael Dockry chipped in two assists.
St. Thomas plays Saturday at 6:30 p.m. against Concordia-Moorhead.
