Volleyball secures home playoff spot

Ellie Etzell had nine blocks and 11 kills and hit .500 and the visiting Tommies hit a season-best .326 on the match and claimed a 3-0 MIAC volleyball victory Saturday at Bethel. UST won 25-12, 25-20, 25-22.
St. Thomas (19-7 overall, 7-2 MIAC) has won 15 of its last 18 matches. Coach Thanh Pham's team improved to 6-1 on the road this season.
The Tommies have locked up a top-four conference playoff seed with two matches left in the regular season.
Augsburg (10-0) clinched a share of the MIAC title Saturday with one match to go. Gustavus (8-1) and St. Thomas (7-2) are still battling for a first-round bye with the No. 2 seed.
The Tommies' .326 hitting clip is their best in conference matches over the last two seasons.
Whitney Lloyd had eight kills, hit .400 and added six blocks. Ellie Meyer had 17 digs. Brooke Reichart chipped in 10 kills. Katharine Mallak had 37 assists and eight digs.
St. Thomas is home Wednesday to face Concordia-Moorhead
