Northwestern scored seven consecutive points late in game one en route to a 1-0 set lead. They broke to an 8-2 lead in the fourth set to pull away.
UST trailed 24-23 in the third set but scored the final three points to stay alive.
Whitney Lloyd had 13 kills; Taylor Lewis recorded 11 kills and 24 digs; and Jennifer Wild had 20 digs for the home team.
The Toms are back on their home court Saturday for a 3 p.m. contest against St. Mary's.
