Saturday wrap: Golf, MCC, Volleyball in action

Seven Tommie fall sports teams were in action Saturday:
- Football (54-0 home against St. Olaf) and Women's Soccer (2-1 at Hamline) won;
- Men's Soccer (2-1 at Hamline) and Volleyball (3-0 at Gustavus) lost.
Men's Cross Country rested several top runners and took second at the Wartburg Invite.
Men's Golf sits in second place and Women's Golf is in third place after one day of the MIAC Championships. The tourney continues with 18 holes on Sunday and closes with 18 holes on Monday.
Volleyball
MIAC co-leader Gustavus (14-2 overall 5-0 MIAC) scored a 3-0 victory over UST. The Toms (7-9, 2-3) lost 25-21, 26-24, 25-16.
Taylor Lewis had 12 kills and nine digs for UST. Jennifer Wild had 16 digs and Rebecca Hawkins had 15 assists.
The Toms play next Saturday at Augsburg
Men's Cross Country
Host Wartburg scored 20 points to win its own seven-team invitational meet on Saturday in Waverly, Iowa. St. Thomas held out five top runners and placed second with 67 as it had 25 runners place in the top 65.
Wartburg had its top seven finish in the top 12.
The Tommies had 10 runners finishe from 15th to 36th place, led by Adam Brandt (26:51), freshman Allen-Michael Burback (26:53), Nick Jackson (26:57), Tim Van Laarhoven was 20th (27:02) and freshman Parker Rosenau was 22nd (27:04).
Women's Golf
The Tommies shot 329 on Saturday at the opening day of the MIAC Championships at Coon Rapids' Bunker Hills course.
UST is five shots behind first-place Carleton and one behind second-place St. Catherine. Erin Dingmann shot 78 and is in second place, Emily Thul shot 83 and is tied for ninth.
Men's Golf
The Tommies shot 301 on Saturday at the opening day of the MIAC Championships at Coon Rapids' Bunker Hills course. UST sits nine shots behind first-place Augsburg and two ahead of Gustavus.
Pete Sienko is in third place after a 71, and Jack Riester is tied for fifth at 74. Nick Nielsen and Matt Radke are tied for 19th after a 78.
