W. Basketball has 3-game lead atop MIAC

Senior Elaine Warner came off the bench to record a career-high 21 points with eight rebounds and three steals to lead the No. 4-ranked Tommies to a 75-37 home win over St. Olaf (7-9, 4-5) in Wednesday night's MIAC women's hoops action at Schoenecker Arena.
UST (16-0 overall, 9-0 MIAC) opened up a three-game lead atop the conference standings at the halfway point of the 18-game race, thanks to Gustavus' home loss to Bethel. Both the Gusties and Royals are 6-3.
The Tommies shot 46 percent from the floor and 9-of-12 from the foul line. They committed just 10 turnovers and used a 38-7 advantage in bench scoring to pull away.
UST used a 13-2 run to close the first half with a 35-13 lead. The Toms have held each of their last 10 opponents to 50 or less points.
Katie Stone scored 14 points, Maggie Weiers had 10 points and nine rebounds, and Kaitlin Langer made 5-of-6 shots and closed with 10 points and six rebounds.
Betsey Daly had 10 points, and Nikki Frogner added nine points and seven boards for the Oles.
St. Thomas plays Saturday at St. Ben's (3 p.m.).
