Big second-half run send W. Hoops to 10-0

Senior Maggie Weiers had 16 points on 7-of-7 shooting as No. 6-ranked St. Thomas (10-0) scored a 67-45 road win over Carthage (Wis.) in Tuesday's championship game of the Carthage Classic in Kenosha, Wis.
Carthage, 26-4 last season, had a 14-game home-court victory streak halted. The Lady Reds' 45 points were their fewest in their last 96 games.
St. Thomas has held seven of its 10 opponents under 50 points and ranks among th NCAA leaders at 47.3 ppg allowed.
Five different Toms have led the team in scoring at least once over the last six games.
Weiers, who was named the tournament MVP, played just 18 minutes on the game while in foul trouble. She had eight points during a 20-2 run in the game's first 12 minutes.
That 18-point lead was cut to seven at halftime, and was down to to 34-31 with 14:00 left. But four different Tommies hit 3-pointers during a subsequent 27-4 run as St. Thomas pulled away.
UST had a 25-4 advantage on points off turnovers. Jenna Dockter added 12 points and Katie Stone and freshman Maddie Wolkow each had eight points.
St. Thomas travels to Northfield Saturday to play Carleton (1 p.m.).
