Volleyball gets third playoff title in row

No. 8-ranked St. Thomas Volleyball hit .299 and used double-doubles from two players to pull out Saturday's 3-0 road sweep of No. 19 Augsburg in the finals of the MIAC Playoffs. The second-seeded Tommies won 25-17, 31-29, 25-21 over the top-seeded Auggies.
St. Thomas (24-6), which has won 20 of its last 22 matches this season and avenged its lone defeat to an MIAC opponent, and claimed its third conference playoff crown in a row.
Jill Greenfield had her 67th career double double with 16 kills and 13 digs, and Taylor Lewis added 10 kills and 13 digs. Kelly Foley hit .400 and added 13 kills, while Whitney Abrahamson added 10 digs and Sara Atkinson had seven kills.
Augsburg served game point three times late in the second game at 25-24, 26-25, and 27-26 but each time UST scored a point to stay alive, and it eventually won 31-29 to take control of the match.
St. Thomas gets the MIAC's automatic berth into the NCAA playoffs and will learn its pairings on Monday.
