St. Thomas Volleyball started well but played uphill the next three sets in Thursday night's 3-1 NCAA Regional Tournament loss to Coe. The unranked Kohawks took a 21-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-22 victory to advance to Friday's semifinals.
The Tommies closed their season at 24-7 and had six seniors finish memorable careers.
Coe turned momemtum in the second set as it claimed its first NCAA playoff win in program history. The Kohawks received 20 kills and nine digs from senior Rachel Schaeffer and hit .255 in the final two games.
UST's Jill Greenfield had 19 kills and 22 digs and hit .286, but it wasn't enough. Taylor Lewis had 12 kills and 17 digs for UST, which lost an NCAA first-round playoff match for the first time in six seasons. Maddie Reese added 24 assists and Whitney Abrahamson chipped in 22 digs.
Greenfield finished with 68 career double doubles in kills/digs. In 137 career matches she had 1,873 digs and 1,446 kills. Kelly Foley finished with 1,656 kills in 142 matches.
