Senior forward Zach Riedeman had 16 points and five assists and senior guard Erik Tengwall added 15 points as the No. 11-ranked Tommies (11-2 overall, 9-0 MIAC) rallied from an early deficit and topped the visiting Cobbers (7-8, 3-7) in Saturday's MIAC men's basketball play at Schoenecker Arena.
Conner Nord added nine points and 13 rebounds for the Tommies, who had only six turnovers and rode a 34-22 rebounding advantage. The comeback win let UST maintain its two-game lead atop the MIAC standings.
UST is 6-0 in a 15-day stretch of January games. Coach John Tauer's team has won 11 of its last 12 this season, 19 consecutive games against conference opponents, and 28 in a row at Schoenecker Arena.
Concordia's Brandon Giese made his first six shots and scored 15 of his game-high 18 points in the game's first 12:00. That helped the Cobbers build a 29-24 lead.
St. Thomas closed the first half on a 12-1 run, capped by Cortez Tillman's 3-pointer at the buzzer, and took a 36-30 lead into the locker room. They used a 10-4 run to open the second half.
In the second half, Tengwall scored 11 points and the Toms shot 57 percent from the field.
St. Thomas plays Monday night at St. John's to close the first half of the 20-game conference schedule.
