Junior center Conner Nord had 13 points and the host Tommies (11-2 overall, 8-0 MIAC) outscored the second-place Gusties (9-5, 7-3) 19-5 at the foul line in Wednesday night's 61-50 men's basketball victory at Schoenecker Arena.
The No. 11-ranked Toms have won 11 of their last 12. They pushed their home win streak to 27 and their victory string over MIAC opponents to 18. They kept a two-game cushion on second-place St. Olaf (6-2) near the halfway point of the 20-game conference race.
St. Thomas, which had only nine turnovers, sank 19-of-24 at the foul line to Gustavus' 5-of-11.
St. Thomas built a 32-26 halftime lead and used a 12-4 run later in the second half to push the lead to 15.
Martin Feddersen had 13 points, 10 rebounds and five assists for the Gusties, who have lost four of their last six. Chad Poppen also scored 13 points.
The Gusties played their third game in a row without injured guard Isaac Tapp. Leading scorer Jordan Dick was limited to two points.
Gustavus had a 35-23 rebounding edge but was unable to overcome 16 turnovers.
The Tommies are home Saturday (3 p.m.) to face Concordia-Moorhead.
