Late shot misses, W. Hoops falls

No. 9-ranked St. Thomas missed a tying shot as time expired and lost 56-54 Saturday at St. Mary's in MIAC women's basketball play. The Tommies (9-2 overall, 7-1 MIAC) had a nine-game win streak halted.
St. Mary's scored the go-ahead basket with eight seconds left to snap a 54-54 tie.
UST had no bench points and was outscored 15-0 from 3-point range by the Cardinals (9-1, 6-1). UST slipped into second place in the conference as Bethelwon again to move to 8-0.
Kelly Brandenberg had 18 points and Maggie Weiers had 16 points and 15 rebounds for UST.
The Toms are home Monday to face Bethel.
