SB's Jenna Hoffman gets MIAC honor

St. Thomas shortstop Jenna Hoffman (JR-Eagan/Cretin-Derham Hall) on Monday was named MIAC Softball Player of the Week.
Hoffman was a catalyst from her leadoff spot in the Tommies' 8-0 week that secured an MIAC regular-season title and another 30-win season for the UST program.
Hoffman hit .433 (13-for-30) with 11 RBI, 10 runs, three homers, three doubles and a pair of stolen bases over the eight victories. She also turned in a .920 fielding percentage at shortstop. Hoffman started her big week with a 2-for-3 game, which included a home run and two RBI, in a 6-0 win over St. Catherine. She had her two best games in the middle of the week, going 3-for-3 with a home run, three runs and four RBI in a 13-0 win over Macalester, and another three-hit game (3-for-5 with two runs, a double and an RBI in a 9-4 victory over St. Benedict.
This season, going into Monday, Hoffman is hitting .381 and she ranks second in the MIAC in home runs (eight) and total bases (83), fifth in doubles (nine), sixth in slugging percentage (.659) and hits (48), and seventh in runs batted in (32).
St. Thomas won two Monday night games against Gustavus to close out a 20-0 MIAC record and climb to 33-5 overall. Hoffman had three hits on the day and now has reached base in 24 consecutive games (23 with hits).
The Tommies will compete in the 2013 MIAC Softball Playoffs Friday-Sunday at Caswell Park in Mankato.
