Softball wins in extra innings, now 31-5

Emily Gregory and Erin Mussett had RBI hits in the top of the ninth inning as the No. 11-ranked Tommies scored an 8-4 game-two win over host Hamline to complete Sunday's MIAC softball doubleheader sweep.
UST won game one 7-1.
St. Thomas (31-5 overall, 18-0 MIAC) had 25 hits on the day and ran its season winning streak to 19 games. Kimmy Hassel had five hits to lead the Toms.
Freshman Morgan Murphy pitched four innings to win game one. She also recorded the game's last two outs with the bases loaded for the save in game two.
The Pipers rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the sixth inning and a 4-3 deficit in the seventh. They loaded the bases in the eighth inning with the score knotted 4-4 and two outs but were unable to plate the game winner. They brought the tying run to the plate in the last of the ninth and one out but two ground outs stranded the bases loaded.
Gregory's RBI single broke a 4-4 tie. Mussett's two-run double pushed UST ahead 7-4.
UST is home Monday to face Gustavus (3:30 doubleheader).
