Defense sharp again in W. Hoops victory

Junior center Maggie Weiers had 13 points, 11 rebounds and four assists as No. 10-ranked St. Thomas pulled away for Monday night's 62-36 home victory over Macalester in MIAC women's basketball play at Schoenecker Arena.

The Tommies (5-1 overall, 3-0 MIAC) have won five in a row this season and stay in a share of the conference lead with 3-0 Bethel.

UST has held its last four opponents under 50 points. Taylor Young had 11 points and Elaine Warner chipped in 10.

UST used a 23-2 run over a 10:00 span in the first half to build a 27-10 advantage, and led 34-15 at halftime.

The Tommies play Wednesday at Hamline and are home Saturday to face St. Ben's.
