Softball gets four HRs, two shutouts in Sun. sweep

Kimmy Hassel homered twice and joined Emily Gregory and Jenna Hoffman with four hits on the day as the No. 18-ranked St. Thomas softball team scored two shutout road wins Sunday at Concordia-Moorhead.
UST (28-6 overall, 15-1 MIAC) won 12-0 and 8-0, as Coach John Tschida celebrated his 800th and 801st games in his career.
St. Thomas stayed in a share of the conference lead with Gustavus with six games left in the regular season.
The Tommies, who had no errors on the day, slapped 23 hits, and 10 different players hit safely in the sweep. Gregory, just a sophomore, had a home run in game one and now has 15 in 78 games on her career.
In game one, UST slugged four home runs and six doubles. Erin Mussett had a three-run homer and Hassel homered twice. Kirstin Bigelbach threw five shutout innings for the pitching victory.
In game two, Kendra Bowe allowed two hits and struck out 10 in six innings and moved to 16-0 on the season.
The Tommies are scheduled to play their last six regular-season games this week, all in St. Paul, starting with Monday's 3:30 p.m. makeup games vs. St. Catherine.
