Softball wins twice at home, stays in MIAC lead

Junior Kimmy Hassel homered and reached base five times in the No. 22-ranked Tommies' home softball sweep of Carleton Tuesday at UST's South Field. UST won 8-2 and 10-1, the latter in five innings.
Hassel went 4-for-6 and now has 52 hits in 32 games this season. Alyssa Dunrud went 4-for-7 with a triple and Tisa Phinney went 3-for-4.
Ten different players had a hit on the day for UST (26-6 overall, 13-1 MIAC). The Toms stayed in a share of the MIAC lead with Gustavus, which scored a 6-3, 3-1 sweep of St. Catherine.
Kendra Bowe started both games and allowed one run in six total innings, with eight strikeouts and no walks. Bowe won game two and fellow freshman Annie Boyer won game one.
Micaela LaRose had three hits on the day and Brooke McManigal had an RBI hit in game one for the Knights (6-23, 5-9).
The Tommies play at home Thursday against St. Catherine (3:30 p.m. doubleheader).
