The No. 22-ranked Tommie softball team split Saturday's key conference doubleheader at Gustavus. The Toms rallied to win 7-5 in 10 innings in game one, but lost game two, 4-0.
The teams remain tied atop the MIAC standings with 10 games left.
St, Thomas (24-6 overall, 11-1 MIAC) had a 53-game conference win streak halted and a 13-game season string ended. Kimmy Hassel had four hits, including a tying single with two out in the seventh inning. Tisa Phinney also had four hits on the day.
Freshman Kendra Bowe moved her pitching record to 14-0 with the game-one victory as she worked 5 2-3 innings in relief and survived several Gustavus threats.
In game one, UST was down 3-2 in the sixth inning and 4-3 in the seventh before it rallied to take the lead. Twice Bowe stranded the winning run in scoring position. UST scored two runs in the top of the 10th and held on to win.
St. Thomas has home MIAC twinbills this week against Carleton (Tuesday, 3:30 p.m.) and St. Catherine (Thursday, 3:30 p.m.)
