Sophomore LHP Kirstin Bigelbach of Red Wing threw a five-inning perfect game in game two as the first-place Tommies (23-5 overall, 10-0 MIAC) ran their conference softball win streak to 52 and season win streak to 12 with an 8-5, 8-0 sweep of St. Mary's on a sunny Wednesday at UST's South Field.
Sophomore Tisa Phinney had a grand slam in game two and a solo home run in the opener, two of the Tommies' 26 hits on the sweep.
Alyssa Dunrud went 4-for-4 in game one and had five hits on the day. Kimmy Hassel went 4-for-6, and Emily Gregory had a two-run homer in the opener that erased a 5-4 SMU lead.
No. 22-ranked St. Thomas rallied from deficits of 2-0, 3-2 and 5-4 in the opener. Freshman Kendra Bowe worked six innings in relief to get the pitching win against a stubborn Cardinal team that had 10 hits.
Bigelbach, in just her eighth college start, had no strikeouts but efficiently collected nine ground outs and six fly outs.
The Toms play two Saturday at Gustavus in a battle of 10-0 MIAC teams.
