Two Fri. wins for Softball ends week with 9-3 record

The Tommie softball team closed out a 9-3 week in Florida with two Friday victories in Clermont. The Tommies topped Babson (Mass.) 10-4 and edged Wellesley (Mass.), 3-2.
UST (13-5) had 23 hits from 11 different players on the day. Alyssa Dunrud had five hits in the two victories to lead St. Thomas.
Freshman Kendra Bowe allowed one earned run in six innings to top Wellesley and improve to 7-0 on the season. A bases-loaded RBI ground out by Erin Mussett scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth, and Christy Gries pitched a 1-2-3 seventh for the save.
In the Babson victory, Kimmy Hassel, Dunrud, Laura Pawlik, Kristen Feisel and Maria McQuillan each had two hits. Kristin Bigelbach retired nine of the 10 batters she faced in the start and left with a 5-0 lead thrugh three innings. Pawlik's bases-loaded double drove home three runs.
