Softball postponed until Wed.; busy month ahead

Fresh off an 11-1 record on its California trip, the St. Thomas softball team is scheduled to open its 2010 MIAC season Wednesday at Carleton in a 4 p.m. doubleheader. The games were scheduled for Tuesday but postponed by rain.
If the weather cooperates, the Tommies willl play 10 conference doubleheaders in a 22-day stretch of April. They are scheduled to begin their home season Thursday against Augsburg (4 p.m.).
St. Thomas (13-5) won its first 11 games on its spring trip. It lost last Thursday night 6-3 in its final game at Redlands, which is now 20-8 overall and sitting atop its conference stadnings.
Coach John Tschida's Tommies will look for another top-two MIAC finish. Over the last 11 seasons, UST has placed first eight times and second three times in the conference standings. The Toms have also won all six MIAC playoffs held.

Senior All-American OF Alison Wright is closing in on the conference career record for hits. Wright has 220 hits in 157 games to rank third in MIAC history behind former Tommies Michelle Wong (243) and Nikki Conway (230).
In the 12 California games, senior pitcher Marta Radcliffe went 6-1 with a 1.55 ERA and 38 strikeouts and seven walks in 40.2 innings; Erica Wilson went 20-for-34 (.588) with 15 runs; Sydney Marquardt went 16-for-37 (.433) with 16 RBI and 13 runs; and Wright went 15-for-33 (.451) with 11 runs.
