Rachel Booth's putback basket with three seconds left in the game lifted St. Thomas to a 59-58 win over Occidental in Friday's non-conference women's basketball game in Los Angeles.
The Tommies (1-1) closed the game on a 13-5 run but never led on the night until Booth rebounded her own miss and scored the go-ahead points to top Occidental, which finished 21-6 last season.
Booth had 11 of her 15 points in the season half, including six in the game-ending 13-5 run. She also had seven rebounds, two blocks and two assists.
Jazmin Townsend scored 11 points and Sarah Smith chipped in eight points and eight rebounds.
UST, which shot 42% from the floor, trailed by as much as seven in each half and forged eight ties but were unable to claim a lead overt the first 59:57.
St. Thomas will close its trip with a Saturday night game against Cal Lutheran, which lost 55-52 to visiting Concordia-Moorhead on Friday.
