Women's Soccer gets 3-1 victory over Gusties

Senior Lexie Fisher scored two second-half goals to help the host Tommies (10-6 overall, 6-3 MIAC) hold off Gustavus (5-10, 1-7) in Wednesday's MIAC women's soccer game at UST's South Field.
UST freshman Stephanie McCartan and Fisher scored in a 5:00 span midway through the second half for a 2-0 lead. Freshman Katy Scherer assisted on both goals.
Gustavus freshman Amanda Cartony scored in the 83rd minute to pull her team within 2-1. But Fisher's goal in the 89th minute iced the victory.
Allie Byron was in goal and had three saves for the Tommies, who outshot Gustavus 17-7 and had a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.
St. Thomas is now alone in third place in the MIAC with two games left in the regular season. The Toms play Sunday night at Macalester.
