Whitworth (1-0-1) scored twice in 74-second span midway through first half and held off a late rally by the host Tommies (1-2) to win 2-1 here Monday in non-conference men's soccer play.
WU's Elly Bulega scored an unassisted goal at 28:46, and teammate Justin Meyer scored at 28:00 (from Cameron Bushey).
The Pirates' Kyle Novak played the first 45 minutes in goal, and Brian Sherpe played the final 45:00.
St. Thomas, 10-0 at home last season, pulled within one on sophomore Mike Hutton's goal at 82:49 (assisted by freshman Josh Pozner).
The Toms had a good flurry in final minute. WU's Sherpe batted away a ball heading toward the top corner with 45 seconds left to set up a UST corner kick. But the Pirates killed off UST's last chance and ran out the clock.
Carlos Castelan played all 90 minutes and goal and had four saves.
St. Thomas is home Wednesday to face Minnesota-Morris (4 p.m.).
