Softball pounds 30 hits in sweep of Cobbers

Alison Wright went 6-for-9 on the day with two doubles and No. 6-ranked St. Thomas pounded 15 hits in each game as it swept Concordia 12-0 and 12-6 in MIAC softball play in Moorhead.
The Tommies (29-3 overall, 13-1 MIAC) kept place with first-place Gustavus, which swept third-place Hamline to move to 12-0 with 10 games left in the conference season. St. Thomas has win 45 consecutive conference games away from its campus.
Marta Radcliffe and freshman Christy Gries combined on a five-inning no-hitter in game one. Radcliffe also pitched a 1-2-3 inning in game two. She struck out nine of the 14 batters she faced on the day with no hits or runs allowed.
Missy Bruggeman went 5-for-7, Colleen Owen went 5-for-6 and Sydney Marquardt went 4-for-6. Kaitlyn Wightman went 2-for-3 with a home run in game two and now has hit safely or scored a run in 53 consecutive games.
The Toms built an 11-1 lead in game two before it allowed five runs in the sixth inning. Freshman Angela Phillips allowed no earned runs and four hits in four innings.
St. Thomas is home Saturday to face Carleton in a 1 p.m. doubleheader. That game will have a live audio webcast.
