Softball splits two Monday games in Calif.

No. 4-ranked St. Thomas opened its spring-break trip to Orange, Calif., with an eight-inning softball loss to No. 20-ranked Linfield at the Sun West Tournament. The Toms broke to a 5-0 lead but lost 10-6 in eight innings.
Linfield (12-0) scored three runs in the sixth inning and two in the seventh, then added four in the top of the eighth, capped by Staci Doucette's three-run home run. Linfield had 15 hits and four walks.
The Tommies (7-1) bounced back Monday afternoon to beat Hamliton (N.Y.) 10-2 in six innings.
On the day, UST senior Steph Moores had five RBI and went 4-for-6; Morgan Betker went 3-for-7 and drove in four runs; and Rachel Osdoba, Alison Wright and Kaitlyn Wightman each had three hits.
UST plays Williams (Mass.) and LaSierra (Calif.) on Tuesday.
