2/28/2009 12:00:00 AM | Men's Hockey
Host Gustavus scored three goals in a 12:08 span to rally from an early 1-0 deficit and went to a 3-1 win over St. Thomas in the MIAC men's hockey playoff semifinals Saturday night in St. Peter.
The Tommies (12-11-3) lost all three season metings with Gustavus (16-10) by a combined five goals. They missed the playoff finals for the first time in eight seasons and just the third time in 22 seasons under Coach Terry Skrypek.
Adam Davis scored in the first three minutes, assisted by Phil Johnson. But the Toms were unable to gfind the back of the net over the final 57:00.
UST freshman goalie Cary Wood stopped 22 shots in the loss.
Gustavus will host Wednesday's 8 p.m. finals against four-seed Hamline, which knocked off top-seed St. Olaf in Northfield.
