Senior Brad Peterson had two goals and three assists to lead visiting Bethel (12-12-1 overall, 8-8 MIAC) to a 6-3 victory over host St. Thomas (12-10-3, 9-5-2) in MIAC men's hockey play Saturday night in Mendota Heights.
The Royals zipped to a 4-0 lead in the game's first 21:00 and salvaged a weekend split. BU's Kent Bostrom hjad a goal and four assists and Aaron Damjanovich had 42 saves.
The loss cost the second-place Tommies a home playoff game next week as they lose a tie-breaker and will travel to Gustavus next Saturday for the semifinals.
Rob Johnson scored two goals for St. Thomas, which lost its last four home Saturday night games. UST went 6-1-1 on the road but just 3-4-1 at home in conference play.
Bethel's longshot playoff hopes ended tonight as Augsburg scored two goals in the final :50 seconds of regulation and took a 7-7 overtime tie with first-place St. Olaf.
BU needed an Augsburg loss and a three-point SJU weekend to claim the tie-breaker for the fifth and final spot.
